Mar de Fulles is a brand new ecotourism concept, which describes itself as a Sustainable Eco-Management Network, consisting of a bioclimatic touristic complex located next to the nature park of Sierra de Espadán (Castelló, Spain) and a wild bird special protection area managed by Natura 2000. This pioneering and innovative project brings together ecology, sustainability and energy efficiency at a level never before seen in Spain. The construction of the complex respects in it entirety the forestal territory and follows the strictest criteria for environmental integration.
The Mar de Fulles complex will support all its electricity requirements through photovoltaic panels with support batteries. This is precisely the part for which Mar de Fulles is seeking finance through the crowd: The purchase and installation of solar panels and support batteries, in order to have complete energy autonomy, generated purely from clean, renewable sources.
Investing in this project is also open to non-spanish residents.
As it is a fully isolated solar energy grid, it is not affected by the spanish "tax over the sun".
Technical characteristics of the project:
- Type of installation: off-grid photovoltaic panels fixed on rooftop
- Power generation: 41.480 W (136 modules)
- Power output: 46,000 W (5 inverters)
- Accumulation: 12.340 AH/C100 - 48V (592 KWH) with 82 batteries
- Installer: HELIOTEC 2006 SL
The total budget for the installation until its commissioning is €280.000. The guarantee against the ECrowd! loan is the entire installation, covering the electricity generation, accumulation and management.
The installation has already been validated and has received a subvention from IVACE of the region of Valencia.
Besides its positive environmental impact, the investment will generate significant savings:
- It will save immediately about €150.000 which would be required to connect Mar de Fulles to the existing electricity grid;
- Furthermore, Mar de Fulles will save the ongoing cost of energy consumption for the eco-touristic complex.
- It is estimated that the investment will fully pay back in 7 years.
The construction work of the complex itself is being financed through a mortgage from Fiare Banca Ética and Caixa Rural Sant Vicent Ferrer de La Vall d'Uixó, Coop. de Crèdit Valenciana.

The Mar de Fulles complex is due to open in june 2016 and will offer the following facilities to its patrons:
- Hotel with 10 times 30m2 rooms, each with 20 m2 of terrace
- Lodge with 5 rooms of 8 beds each, with terrace
- Panoramic swimming pool
- 2000m2 private garden in front of the terraces
- 35 picnic spaces in the forest
- Parking
- Multi-function rooms
- Reception with touristic guidance and advice
- Interior dining room with capacity for 150 diners
- Panoramic kitchen
- External dining room with capacity for at least 150 diners
- Organic vegetable garden for the supply of the restaurant
Description of the technology used for the installation of the solar panels financed through this operation:
Photovoltaic panels:
Panels or photovoltaic modules consist of a set of photovoltaic cells that produce electricity from light (electromagnetic radiation) that shines on them, through the photoelectric effect.
For this project, the model ATERSA A305 P has been chosen .
Inverters:
The inverter transforms the direct current from photovoltaic panels into alternating current for use in the installation.
In this project, 3 models of different capacity are being used in order to optimize the installation.
3 INVERTERS OUTBACK VFXR 3,000 VA.
1 INVERTER SERIES OUTBACK RADIAN GS7048E 7,000 VA.
1 3-phase inverter INGETEAM INGECON SUN 30 30 KW.
Batteries:
They allow to harness the power of the photovoltaic modules by accumulating and supplying power as and when needed. They are electrochemical systems based on reversible chemical reactions taking place inside the battery. In off grid installations it is necessary to store the energy captured during the hours of sunshine in order to cover supply when there is no or insufficient solar radiation.
The batteries or accumulators play a fundamental role in the long term sustainability of a photovoltaic installation.
For the Mar de Fulles installation, two types of batteries are being used:
12 batteries series 5000 4KS27P ROLLS (2062 AH / C100)
70 batteries series 5000 2YS31P ROLLS (2 x 3426 AH / C100)
